Pottery and Clay Modelling

ceramic sheep made at Waunifor

The pottery at Waunifor is a fully equipped studio within the five acre grounds, with views across the beautiful Welsh landscape. Enjoy a few days of creative fun with like-minded companions, relaxing away from it all whilst learning a new skill.

Waunifor Ceramic sessions can cover any ceramic hand building techniques – coils, slabs, thumbs pots etc – or an introduction to pottery - throwing on the wheel. The pottery is equipped with all the necessary tools, three wheels and a choice of clay and glazes. The cost of the sessions includes all materials, and firing and glazing of your work, which will be sent to you for an additional charge. If you are staying for a week, and your pottery sessions are at the beginning of your stay, your work should be fired for you by the time you go home.

There is plenty of individual attention, so the ceramics sessions are equally suited to beginners and those with some experience. Our participants always find our pottery sessions very productive; after a day in the workshop you are likely to find that you have produced three or four thrown pots, a couple of small models and one or two smaller items such as press moulded dishes, coasters and thumb pots.

The tutor for ceramic breaks is Lisette Chesshire, who has many years experience teaching pottery and crafts to adults, families, special needs students and teachers, is friendly and encouraging and has expert knowledge of her subject. As well as teaching, Lisette supplies her own work to shops and galleries and sells hand-painted ceramic signs from her web site: www.ceramichousesigns.co.uk

Allow two sessions for pottery, ideally a morning and an afternoon on the same day. There is a maximum of 8 people for hand-building sessions, and three for throwing on the wheel. One session is enough for pottery painting!
